PAA Announces New Honorees
I am pleased to announce ten new PAA Honorees! Barbara Anderson, Jere R. Behrman, Isaac W. (Ike) Eberstein, V. Jeffery Evans, Andrew Mason, S. Philip Morgan, Frank L. Mott, Germán Rodríguez, Steven Ruggles, and John Strauss have joined the group of PAA members honored on the PAA website thanks to many colleagues, students, and mentees who have contributed to the PAA Fund on their behalf. Once $5,000 has been raised as part of an Honor-a-Colleague campaign, the PAA posts the honoree’s picture and a profile on the Honored Members page of the PAA website. You can view profiles of all the Honor-A-Colleague honorees at PAA’s website.
Do you have a favorite colleague you would like to honor? You can start a new campaign, contribute to one that is ongoing (there are 33 currently in progress), or add to the contributions honoring someone who is already an honoree. If you’d like to know which campaigns are currently on-going, please contact Lois Brown in the PAA office. You can also lend additional support to those friends and colleagues who have already been recognized, including the honorees above.
Contributions go into the PAA Fund, which is supporting important activities that strengthen PAA’s impact for its members and the population research community. These include efforts to protect the demographic data produced by our statistical systems, programs that reach out to our early career members and enhance the diversity of our field, and travel awards that allow demographers from low-income countries to attend our meetings. These activities are not part of the normal operating budget for the PAA. They cannot happen without your help. You can contribute at any time, whether or not you wish to “Honor a Colleague.” Simply visit the PAA website to make a contribution.
With great appreciation,
Judith A. Seltzer
