Interdisciplinary Association for Population Health Science Virtual Conference

This year’s theme is Policies, Places, and Profits: Manufacturers of Illness and Health. The conference will feature exciting presentations, posters, mentoring sessions, and these three plenaries:

Policies, Profits, and the Public’s Health, with David Michaels and Greg Fairchild.

  • David Michaels is at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University; author of the 2020 book, The Triumph of Doubt; and appointed by President Obama to serve as Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Greg Fairchild is at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia; cofounder of Resilience Education, a nonprofit providing business courses to incarcerated individuals; named one of the Top 10 Business School Professors in the World by CNN/Fortune; and a member of the Surgeon General’s initiative on Community Health and Economic Prosperity.

Reaching for Hope in Working-Class America, by Pulitzer Prize-Winning author Sheryl WuDunn.

Corporations and Population Health, with Susan Greenhalgh and Nicholas Freudenberg

  • Susan Greenhalgh is in the Department of Anthropology at Harvard University and is a prolific and award-winning author of books examining the interface between science, technology, politics, and health, including Fat-talk Nation: The Human Costs of America’s War on Fat; Just One Child: Science and Policy in Deng’s China; and Under the Medical Gaze: Facts and Fictions of Chronic Pain
  • Nicholas Freudenberg is in the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy and Director of the CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute; author of Legal but Lethal: Corporations, Consumption, and Protecting Public Health; and founder of Corporations and Health Watch and Project ToxicDocs, which track corporate behavior and provide resources for examining commercial determinants of health.
