New Membership Dues Structure

Starting in November 2026

To be cognizant of generally rising costs, PAA’s funding gap, and the increases across similar organizations, PAA is ready for a change in how we handle membership.

Introducing the Income-based Dues Structure

The past flat-rate system provides simplicity, but does not vary dues based on members’ income levels. A tiered membership model, tied to income, allows for regular dues increases that are more equitable and accessible across career stages.

A More Equitable, Sustainable Model for PAA

Beginning in November 2026, PAA will introduce a new income-based dues structure for professional members. The new structure recognizes that our members are at different career stages and have different financial circumstances. It will make PAA membership more accessible while allowing the Association to make modest, predictable adjustments to dues over time. 

What to Expect

New - "Regular" members will be called "Professional" members and will select a dues level based on their annual income. This eliminates the need for an Early-Career category. 

Unchanged - Student, Emeritus, and Low-Income Country Resident members will still have their own category. Students will be limited to being Student members for 5 years. Then they will renew as a Professional. Emeritus members are those who have paid membership dues for 15 years and are retired from full-time employment. Low-Income Country Resident members have to reside in one of these low-income countries as defined by the World Bank.

New - An upgraded system for transactions. You will no longer have an invoice awaiting payment on your account for renewal. You will just log in, pick your membership, and pay! Memberships can be selected and paid for 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years. Each with a 3-month grace period where you do not lose your benefits. 

New - Option to enroll in auto-renew, so you make sure your membership is always up-to-date!

Renew your PAA Membership now, before the changes take place.

  1. Log in to your membership dashboard.
  2. At the top under Membership, dropdown to join or renew.
  3. Select your membership or your open invoice. (Choose an optional Applied Demography subgroup membership for $5.) 
  4. Once in your shopping cart, make sure everything is correct. Scroll down to Payment Options.
  5. Enter your payment information and submit.
