Volunteer Opportunities
Note: All volunteers must be registered for PAA 2022. Opportunities are available for both in-person and virtual participation.
Session Co-Chairs (IN-PERSON ONLY)
Given the hybrid format for sessions, we want to ensure that both in-person and virtual presenters and participants are considered throughout the session. The session co-chair will be responsible for:
- Liaise with the in-room and virtual technical staff as needed.
- Helping the in-person presenters, discussants, and chairs with the flow of activities throughout the session such as where to sit, when to approach the podium, and reminding them to repeat in-person questions.
- Reminding presenters to wipe down the microphone if they choose to present without a mask on.
- Monitoring the question function on the meeting app to ensure that all participant questions are answered (as time allows).
- Typing questions asked in-person to the virtual platform to ensure virtual participants can hear the question.
- Any other reasonable tasks to ensure virtual participants are fully engaged in the session.
Session co-chairs should be generally comfortable with video conferencing technology (e.g., Zoom) and providing guidance to colleagues of all ages. This opportunity is only available to in-person attendees.
Mentors (IN-PERSON or VIRTUAL)
There are a few mentoring opportunities throughout the meeting including the Career Mentoring Lunch and the Meet the Researcher rooms both in-person and virtually. This opportunity is ideal for late mid-career and seasoned members. The Career Mentoring Lunch is held on Thursday, April 7 from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM ET. The Meet the Researcher rooms will be available in-person during the Welcome Mixer. Virtual mentoring opportunities will be available throughout the meeting.
Poster Discussants (IN-PERSON or VIRTUAL)
One of the goals of the PAA Annual Meeting is to ensure all presenters receive feedback on their work. Poster discussants visit the posters (all available online and some will be in-person) and provide feedback to the presenters.
Twitter Team (IN-PERSON or VIRTUAL)
One of PAA’s primary goals is to promote high-quality population research and what better way to do that than to share the research presented at PAA 2022? We need active Twitter users to live-tweet up to three sessions of their choice. This is a great way to bring attention to the impactful research this community creates.
