The European Doctoral School of Demography (EDSD) is an eleven-month program that is offered annually to provide high-level education in demography for students pursuing doctoral studies. The program is fully sponsored, and students will gain a solid knowledge base on the causes and consequences of demographic change, population data, statistical and mathematical demography, as well as modeling, simulation, and forecasting. They will be taught by leading scholars in demography and will develop a thesis project, attend seminars and workshops, and receive individual guidance and mentorship. A significant portion of the curriculum focuses on strengthening students' quantitative and programming skills. The language of instruction is English, and each cohort typically consists of 12 to 20 students.

In 2023-2024, the program will be held in two locations. Preparatory courses will take place at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany, from early September to late October 2023. Core courses will be held at the Institut National d'Études Démographiques (INED) at Campus Condorcet in Aubervilliers, Paris, France, from November 2023 to the end of July 2024. The program is fully funded and free of charge, and attendance in person is mandatory.

The deadline to apply for the program is April 19, 2023, and it commences on September 4, 2023. Results for successful candidates will be announced in early June 2023.
