Congressional staff are invited to join PAA and APC for cake and ice cream and to
hear what social scientists are learning about the many challenges and opportunities an
aging baby boom generation presents policymakers.
Born after World War II, between 1946 and 1964, the baby boom generation has been a fixture of the U.S. population for more than 70 years. As we approach the end of this decade, the last of the baby boomers will be turning 65 years old. This major demographic milestone has many social and economic implications.
On Thursday, July 20, the Population Association of America and Association of Population Centers, in cooperation with the office of Representative Brian Fitzpatrick, are hosting an in-person briefing to examine the consequences of an aging baby boom generation. An expert panel of population scientists will discuss important fiscal and social outcomes regarding the status of the baby boom generation, including the implications of the aging Boomer generation for Social Security and Medicare, and for families and communities who will care for the health, safety, and well-being of their older relatives and neighbors.
