University of Maryland Time Use Conference

Time is a critical but under-researched aspect of racial and ethnic disparities in daily life, including social and public interactions, health and well-being. The focus of the 2024 University of Maryland (UMD) Time Use Conference will be using time use and well-being data to investigate temporal dimensions of racial and ethnic inequities and structural racism. We particularly welcome research on (a) innovative data, measures, and analyses of daily time use and structural racism; (b) intersectional and critical analyses of racial and ethnic time-related inequities before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic; and (c) racial and ethnic disparities in time use, health, and well-being across the life span. We also encourage research on other dimensions of inequity as they relate to time use, health, and well-being.

The Conference will offer in-person and virtual attendance to provide a more inclusive venue for the interdisciplinary time use research community to interact and share ideas. Abstract submission is open to all individuals with an interest in how patterns of daily time use affect child, adult, and family well-being.
The deadline to submit is January 12, 2024. All authors will be notified by March 15, 2024.

Authors are asked to submit:

  • a brief abstract (150 words)
  • a four-page extended abstract that includes information about the research methods and expected findings. The extended abstract must be sufficiently detailed to allow the organizing committee to judge the merits

Abstracts may be submitted by email to: timeuse-2024@umd.edu
