On May 11, the Population Association of America (PAA)/Association of Population Centers (APC) participated in the 17th Annual Capitol Hill Exhibition sponsored by the Coalition for National Science Funding (CNSF). The purpose of this event is to educate members of Congress and congressional staff about the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the diverse, innovative scientific research the agency supports.

At this year’s event, PAA/APC featured the Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS) and the National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS) projects supported by NSF that are based at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Catherine Fitch, Associate Director, Minnesota Population Center, presented, “IPUMS and NHGIS: Population Data for Policy Analysis, Research, and the Classroom.” Her posted described how policymakers use both data sets to inform important policy and programmatic decisions and how educators are accessing and using the information as well.
