Petition to NSF to Restore Eligibility for the 2026 Graduate Research Fellowship Program Competition

On September 26, the National Science Foundation (NSF) announced dramatic changes to the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP). The most egregious change would make second year graduate students ineligible. In addition, the changes force all first-year students to apply now, giving them only 6 weeks to assemble a compelling application.

If you would like to join others in communicating your concerns about these abrupt changes, a group of scientists have created an online petition to urge NSF to reverse the program’s changes and make the process fair for those were eligible to compete based on the 2025 rules. Learn more and take action.
