The 2020 Census is underway! Its outcome will influence the research, research training, and evaluation activities that population scientists, including demographers, economists, and sociologists, conduct over the next decade. A complete Census count means more accurate data for population scientists’ research. And for local communities, more federal and state funding for crucial resources like education and health care. The Decennial Census data are used to benchmark almost every federal survey for 10 years.
Population scientists nationwide need to get involved to ensure a successful 2020 Census! Here are a few ways in which members of the Population Association of America can do their part.
How Population Scientists Can Get Involved:
- Educate others about the importance of population
- Participate in local complete count committee or Get out the Count (GOTC) events
- Submit letters to the editor or opinion columns to local media
- Promote 2002 Census via social media
