Globally, COVID-19 is having an unprecedented impact on population health. Demographers are playing a crucial role in increasing our understanding of the factors contributing to the spread of COVID-19, and of morbidity and mortality associated with the disease. Yet population-based studies on the correlates and outcomes of the disease remain scarce. How and why is the pandemic unfolding differently within and across countries and regions? What are the population health consequences of COVID-19? How is demographic data collection being transformed during the pandemic? Answers to these questions will contribute to the ongoing fight against COVID-19.

In an effort to increase knowledge on this subject, we are organising a Special Issue on ‘Population Health and COVID-19’ in Canadian Studies in Population, a peer-reviewed scientific journal that publishes on demography and population-related issues in Canada and internationally. This journal publishes original research papers, research notes, review articles and shorter policy briefs. Specifically, for this Special Issue of Canadian Studies in Population, we invite contributions on the following topics:

• The demography of COVID-19
• COVID-19-related population health outcomes
• Correlates and determinants of population health during the COVID-19 pandemic
• Demographic data collection during the COVID-19 pandemic
• Policy implications of COVID-19 research results

Submissions do not need to be Canada-specific. We welcome submissions that focus on Canada as well as other countries and regions.

Notes for Prospective Authors

Manuscript Submission:  
The review process will be similar to regular journal submissions where final decisions are based on peer review. If the paper is not accepted for publication in Canadian Studies in Population, you are welcome to submit it elsewhere for publication.

Author Guidelines: 
We are inviting the following types of contributions for the SI:

1) Original Research Articles up to 6000 words;
2) Research notes up to 3000 words;
3) Review articles up to 4000 words; and
4) Policy briefs up to 1000 words.

The word limit includes abstract, tables, and references as well as the main text.
