Title: Population Growth and Unemployment in India

Publisher: Ashish Publishing House

Year: 2020

Announcement: This book deals with the problems of unemployment and poverty. Alternative strands of thinking have prevailed in India concerning the relation between the objective of poverty reduction and that of addressing unemployment. In mainstream economic theory, unemployment and underemployment on a vast scale are regarded as a primary cause of poverty. Drawing primarily on NSS reports, this book examines the recent trends of unemployment and poverty, analyzing the association between them. A widely accepted view, supported by ILO reports, is that the poor are too poor to remain unemployed. This analysis, however, reveals that poverty is more widespread than unemployment, particularly in Karnataka State, where unemployment and underemployment have only slightly deteriorated over the period of a decade.
