Title: Trends in Population Growth and Unemployment by Caste in India: Some Reflections
Publisher: APH Publishing Corporation
Year: 2021
Announcement: India is a heavily populated country where a large number of people are wholly unemployed or only partly employed, causing widespread poverty. Together, the unemployed and underemployed constitute a reservoir of untapped productive potential that could be used to eliminate poverty. In India, the caste system seems to have played a large part in creating unemployment-related poverty by creating artificial barriers to professions, preventing unemployed people from taking on occupations considered outside of those allowed for their caste.
