Update on PAA 2022

By PAA Web posted 01-25-2022 03:58 PM

We are looking forward to finally connecting in Atlanta for the PAA 2022 Annual Meeting to be held April 6–9. Even as the surge of COVID-19 Omicron-fueled pandemic is subsiding, health risks to many of us remain; moreover, international participants face substantial challenges to traveling. Keeping this in mind, we intend to offer a virtual participation option.

We feel it is essential to provide an in-person experience to ensure networking and professional socialization for graduate students and younger scholars. If your personal risk tolerance allows you to join us in person, please do so. If your health conditions or other personal considerations do not allow for in-person involvement, please join us virtually.

For the in-person experience, we are planning various measures to protect the health and well-being of our attendees. These include:

  1. Ensuring that everyone has been vaccinated (and preferably received a booster shot). Vaccination certificates will need to be uploaded and will be verified. Individuals who cannot obtain vaccination for any reason will be able to participate virtually.
  2. Masks will be required.
  3. Chairs will be arranged to allow for social distancing.

We are also reworking our traditional in-person networking events, such as the Welcome Mixer, to provide opportunities for attendees to connect in person safely. If you have other thoughts on other ways of protecting the health of our attendees, please let us know by emailing Danielle Staudt (danielle@popassoc.org).

If you cannot participate physically, we encourage you to register and participate virtually. The program is exciting with diverse sessions on cutting-edge topics. While nothing can replace hallway conversations, and the joy of seeing people in three dimensions rather than two, we will do our best to make the virtual format engaging and exciting.

Please remember that if you are presenting, you must register by February 15 to secure your place on the program.

In the coming weeks, we will be communicating with you about the specifics of participating in-person and virtually. Please be on the lookout for these communications.

With best wishes for your health and safety,

Sonalde Desai and Jennifer Van Hook (Program Co-Chairs)

Danielle Staudt (PAA Executive Director)
