We are happy to inform you that “South Asia Centre for Labour Mobility and Migrants (SALAM)” at International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai announces its first International Conference on “Labour Migration and Sustainable Development in Asia: Opportunities, Challenges and the Way Forward”. This conference is scheduled to be held during June 1-3, 2023 at IIPS, Mumbai.
The South Asia Centre for Labour Mobility and Migrants (SALAM) was conceived at IIPS, Mumbai by the three UN agencies, namely ILO, IOM and UN Women along with IIPS. This joint venture involved leading academic institutions/universities (RMMRU, Bangladesh; CESLAM, Nepal; SDPI, Pakistan; IPS, Sri Lanka; and IIPS, India) in addition to UNU-MERIT (Netherlands) and the University of California Berkeley, USA. In this centre, we are working on collecting and compiling migration-related information, maintaining a migration portal, and making the information accessible to researchers and other stakeholders. This centre carries out research and training on various migration issues and capacity-building programmes revolving around various thematic pillars of SALAM for young researchers, government officials and policymakers in South Asia.
