Two fully-funded, short-term opportunities to travel to Guinea are currently available through the Fulbright Specialist Program (FSP).
The FSP is part of the Fulbright Program, the U.S. Department of State’s flagship international educational exchange program, and pairs highly qualified U.S. academics and professionals with institutions abroad to share their expertise, strengthen institutional linkages, hone their skills, and gain international experience, while building capacity at their overseas host institutions though a short-term, project-based exchange.
The grant will include international round-trip economy class airfare, transit allowance ($100), all applicable visa fees, a daily honorarium ($200), enrollment in a limited health benefits program, lodging, meals, and in-country transportation.
Sociodemographic Research Assistance Project
The first project, ‘Sociodemographic Research Assistance Project’ (P010790), would involve one visit, approximately 33 days in length, to the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in Conakry, Guinea. Ideally the project would be conducted between May and September, 2025.
Host Institution: Ministry of Planning (or Plan) and International Cooperation
Project Description:
The host institution has identified that they have low proficiency in conducting sociodemographic studies, hindering the selection and implementation of effective planning policies.
Project Activities:
- Training seminar on public expenditure determinants related to gender.
- Panel discussion on migration and employment.
- Training seminar on sociodemographic data analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
The Specialist for this project should possess a strong knowledge of socio-economic and demographic analysis tools and have a teaching approach that emphasizes practical case studies. In addition, they should have full linguistic proficiency in French.
Support for Regional Sustainable Development Strategies
The second project, ‘Support for Regional Sustainable Development Strategies (SRADD)’ (P010789), would involve one visit, approximately 33 days in length, to the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in Conakry, Guinea. Ideally the project would be conducted between May 2025 and September 2026.
Host Institution: Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation
Project Description:
- Lack of development planning tools
- Low competency of personnel in regional analysis
Project Activities:
- Training seminar on the methodology and tools for developing regional planning and sustainable development strategies (SRADD).
- Field visits to the four Natural Regions of Guinea.
The Fulbright Specialist would work primarily with government officials and professionals from the National Planning Directorate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong mastery of tools and the process for developing SRADD (Regional Sustainable Development Strategies)
- Good ability to analyze the functions of a city
- Practitioner of socio-economic and environmental analysis
- French proficiency is preferred, but not required
