It seems that every day brings new challenges and threats to our working environments and the research that we have dedicated ourselves to advancing. Now, more than ever, we need each other to provide mutual support and highlight the importance of and to advance population research.
To that end, we have important work to do at the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Population Association of America in Washington, DC (April 10-13). This includes a record number of meetings with legislators during our Advocacy Day on the Hill, and a robust set of scientific sessions covering a wide range of topics of interest to our members.
There are meaningful ways that you can support the work of the PAA, contribute to the success of our annual meeting, and represent the interests of PAA members to policy makers during these challenging times.
First and foremost, please attend the meeting and engage with your colleagues, and sign up for volunteer opportunities. These efforts have a direct impact on the development of scientific knowledge and are an important way to demonstrate our collective resolve in the face of significant threats to our work.
Second, if you are unable to attend the meeting for any reason and you have already registered, please consider donating your registration fee to PAA by not requesting a refund, to support the vital work we do. Your donation will help to sustain the PAA staff and strengthen our efforts to ensure that our voices are heard and help us to continue demonstrating the importance of our research.
Finally, please exercise patience as you request assistance from PAA staff. As you know, PAA is currently operating without an executive director and doing so at a particularly chaotic moment. PAA staff are working tirelessly to respond to your requests, manage the planning for the annual meeting, and address the extraordinary number of challenges we face this year. Please allow them time to respond.
We thank you for your continued support and engagement with PAA. We look forward to seeing you in DC in April.
All the best for these challenging times.
