Demography, a Subscribe to Open journal published by Duke University Press, met its subscription funding target by the March 31, 2026, deadline, and so all articles published in the 2026 calendar year will be Open Access in perpetuity. DUP, which relies on institutional subscriptions to support its publishing costs (summary PDF), successfully promoted and sold enough subscriptions to flip the journal to OA for the entire year. (When the goal is not met, the year’s content will be available only to subscribing institutions and their affiliated researchers and readers, as well as all PAA members.)
You can see the current list of 2025 and 2026 subscribers here. If your institution is not a subscriber, we encourage you to contact your library and ask them to subscribe; here is a sample email for this purpose. The DUP FAQs page further describes the funding model and subscriber benefits. The subscription prices start at $250 for U.S. institutions and $125 for international entities.
