Title: Partner Choice, Marriage, and Demographic Change in Japan
Speaker: Yuko Hara, PhD, Visiting Assistant Professor, Maryland Population Research Center (MPRC), University of Maryland, College Park
Description: Japan has experienced a pronounced postponement and decline in marriage in recent decades, which has been a major driver of low fertility. Difficulties in finding partners who meet expectations have been proposed as one explanation. This talk will present these demographic changes and shed light on the role of mate preferences in shaping these trends.
We will also have some time to ask anyone who is attending the PAA meetings in St. Louis next week to report on what they found interesting, novel, and/or significant!
